Picnic Areas at Ramsey Park

Ramsey Park has five picnic areas that have been carved out of the park’s natural woodlands. These areas are perfect for taking your children or grandchildren out for the evening or meeting an old friend for lunch. Three of the five shelters in Ramsey Park listed below can be reserved from May–October.

Lower Shelter

The Lower Shelter

The park’s original and largest passive recreation area features the 1930’s W.P.A. Vintage Lower Shelter with its massive timber and granite construction. This shelter also has a large grilling area. Nearby is a playground, ball field, Ramsey Park Zoo, campground, & restroom facilities. Unique bridges and pathways provide access to various scenic vistas of Ramsey Falls and Ramsey Creek.

Zeb Gray Overlook Shelter

The Zeb Gray Shelter features a scenic overlook of the Redwood River and the park’s hogback peninsula. This area also offers access to the waterfall which bears the city’s name. The Falls is spanned by a pedestrian bridge providing a striking view of the Redwood River gorge. Near the Zeb Gray Shelter is also Ramsey Park’s newest playground addition which features inclusive & accessible equipment.

Please note: $150 fee to move picnic tables at Zeb Gray Shelter.

Ramsey Park Shelter

Ramsey Falls Area Shelter

Ramsey Falls Area Shelter gives you easy access to one of the park’s most popular attractions, the Falls itself. From this shelter area, there is a path that will take you to the observation area. The shelter area also provides ample picnic space with an open shelter, modern restroom building, and access to some of the park's most scenic hiking trails, with a playground close by.

Make Your Reservation Today!

Reservations can be made in advance by obtaining a reservation permit from the Redwood Area Community Center located at 901 Cook Street during normal business hours, calling 507-616-7444, or online at: www.redwoodareacommunitycenter.com. Reservations will be taken from January to mid-October of each year, for that year only.

  • Inside all shelters are six (6) picnic tables. If you need more than six (6) tables you will need to contact the Redwood Area Community Center at 507-616-7444 during normal business hours. (Please see current rate schedules for picnic table rates)
  • In order to receive a refund of $5 less paid amount + sales tax or reschedule your reservation, notification must be made seven full days before your scheduled date of arrival. No full refunds will be given.
  • The issuance of a permit does not exempt the permittee or persons using the shelter house from the rules and regulations of the City Code relating to the parks.
  • No glass beverage containers are allowed in the parks.

Shelter Rental Times & Fees:

10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Full Day → $55.00 + Sales tax

WARNING:

Any misuse of the permit may result in the immediate revocation of the privileges. Violators will be asked to leave shelter houses in the direction of the police or park ranger.
